Why should I learn Python?

So you are thinking about learning to code and are trying to decide if Python is something that you should consider. You are in the right place.

If you are new to programming and you want to learn your first programming language Python is a very good option in my opinion. I have been teaching Python to new programmers for over 3 years and these are the reasons I find why Python was a good language to select.

1. Python is a versatile - you can use it for many applications.

  • There a lot of packages available which make Python suitable for web development, developing on a raspberry pi, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and even big data.

  • Many new students do not really know what they want to do after they learn to code and are interested in keeping their options open. Popular ideas are to create websites, be more efficient at work or be able to get hands on experience to understand the programmers at their workplace.

2. Python has a clean and simple syntax.

  • Python does not use excessive brackets and semi-colons in it's syntax.

  • It is easy to read and similar to english

3. Python is free to use

  • There is no investment needed to buy Python. It is open source and available to download onto your computer for free. (Mac, Linux and Windows)

  • You can then start developing immediately.

4. Python is one of the most popular languages

  • This means it is widely used and there is a lot of support and resources for learning Python.

  • Python is know as an Interpreted language (you can run you code as soon as you write it) and this makes writing programs in Python quick.

5. Python is profitable skill to have

  • You can choose to freelance and do side jobs after learning Python

  • You can change careers

  • You can start your own business


If you choose Python as your first programming language to learn it will be quick to develop in, there are a lot of resources online to help you learn, it is free to use, has a simpler syntax to other languages, can be used to develop a variety of applications and is a language that is in high demand today.
